Team Japan attends careers event for Japanese speaking graduates (JETs)

People First’s Team Japan consultants attended a careers forum, hosted by the JETAA (Japan Exchange and Teaching Association Alumni) at Asia House, London. JETAA is an organisation created to support UK graduates who spend time living and working in Japan as part of the JET Programme, run by the British Council and the Japanese government’s education department.  Participants typically spend 1-3 years teaching in Japanese school then return to the UK, having gained both Japanese language and cultural skills.

The event consisted of a variety of workshops and panel events to help JET returnees to plan their future careers and to give them practical tips and advice about the UK jobs market for Japanese speakers.  People First’s Team Japan consultants have an in-depth knowledge of this market, so hosted a stand in the main events arena.

About 20 people registered with People First on that day.

We gave them practical advice such as

  1. Always keep your CV updated!
  2. Take phone calls and respond quickly!
  3. Be positive and flexible

  • Japanese hiring managers are not keen on job hoppers but prefer stable candidates.
  • Experience in corporate environments helps to attract employers.
  • Please make sure that your CV is easy to read for HR people
