A survey from Japanese newspaper Yomiuri Shimbun, published by Japan News, shows that most Japanese support ‘equal pay for equal work’. The survey which was conducted from March to April, showed that 71% of poll respondents think equal compensation should be paid to those who have the same ability, performance and length of service as other employees, regardless of their employment status as regular or non-regular workers. Meanwhile, the survey also showed that 27% did not agree with ‘equal pay for equal work’. The government is currently working on a compilation of related bills to revise laws for ‘equal pay for equal work’.
