Location: West London
This role works as part of a team and is primarily involved in claims and demurrage processes and procedures. The role holder also interacts with the Commercial, Trading and Finance teams to ensure all demurrage claims are executed in a timely and accurate manner.
Internally this role will have day to day contact with the other members of the Operations team in London, Beijing, Houston and Hong Kong. They will also need to develop effective relationships with the Traders in London. In addition they will work with other functional teams within the company as and when required.
The Demurrage Claims Specialist will be required to work externally with brokers, owners and other counter parties.
What you'll be doing each day:
·Maintain and manage the filing of all demurrage claims, both Shipping and Cargo in an accurate and efficient manner.
·Check all loading and discharge time logs and identify demurrage cases.
·Submit demurrage claims to suppliers and receivers based on purchase and sale contracts.
·Review and counter claims from suppliers and receivers based on purchase and sale contracts or charter parties.
·Review and counter claims from owners based on charter parties.
·Liaison with finance department on a daily basis and organizing offsets and cross payments.
· Maintain data in Bridge system and send the payable and receivable notices to offices in Asia.
·Gather data and conduct analysis of demurrage claim progress on a regular basis.
·Work alongside team members to reduce UUK receivables and provide cover for other team members during busy and holiday periods.
·Cooperate with finance department in HK and UK about all demurrage payment and invoice arrangement
·And any other tasks that the company may reasonably assign from time to time, according to business needs
The skills you need to succeed:
·Suitable candidates must be educated to at least degree level or possess an equivalent level qualification.
·Strong planning and organizational skills required
·Excellent communication (written and spoken) and teamwork skills with preference for action, accountability and developing alternatives and solutions
·Strong desire for personal learning and sharing of knowledge and skills with others
·Excellent attention to detail and results orientation
·Must be proficient in Microsoft packages and generally IT literate
·Previous experience of handling demurrage claims (shipping and trading contracts)
·Previous experience of handling time charter claims and associated charter party activity
·The successful candidate should ideally have previously worked and/or been trained by an oil major or previously worked in an owner and trading house environment.
