People First was delighted to be invited by Bloomberg to attend a speech by H.E. Liu Xiaoming, Ambassador for the People’s Republic of China to the United Kingdom on the 8th of May 2018 which covered UK-China bilateral cooperation in trade, finance and investment.
Liu Xiaoming stated that 40 years ago China decided to embark on the road of reform and ‘opening the gate’ in terms of international business and trade, since then China has embraced the world with open arms. China’s economic development is achieved in an open market, and its future development requires this gate to be opened even wider. He sincerely hopes that China and the UK will join hands in upholding free trade and leading the trend of openness and connectivity.
During the Q & A section, a reporter asked Liu Xiaoming whether Brexit will affect Chinese investment in the UK; He answered that he understands Brexit brings worries for Chinese business investors in the UK but is hopeful that everything will go smoothly and it won’t affect Chinese business in the UK. He stated that he honestly believes that it is up to the UK to support international business policies after Brexit and hopes that business leaders of both countries will take a long-term view and engage in genuine cooperation. He concluded by saying that together, China and the UK working together will create a promising new era for UK-China bilateral cooperation in trade, finance and investment.
People First gained valuable insight and networking opportunities from the event and is looking forward to bringing more news in the future.
