The last quarter of 2018 saw an increase in the number of positions posted by companies in China and the number of CVs that companies received for job postings when compared to the previous three quarters, according to data from Chinese career platform Zhaopin published in ECNS.
The report, based on a survey conducted in 37 cities nationwide, stated that during the last quarter of 2018, an average of 32 candidates competed for one job, which was the highest ration recorded in 2018. Zhaopin added that winter is usually an off-peak season for recruiters but that this quarter was ‘fiercely competitive.”
"Beijing is the most popular city among job seekers with nearly 90 applicants for one job, and it is followed by Shenzhen, Shenyang and Shanghai,” the report stated.
By sector, jobseekers in the IT, transportation services and financial management sectors faced the most competition during the quarter.
Meanwhile, the report found that the average salary offered by recruiters in the winter increased by 3.9% from the same period in 2017. Beijing remained at the top when it came to salary offers, followed by Shanghai and Shenzhen.
