Our client is an exciting new start up with strong financial backing and specialising in supplying the Chinese cross border ecommerce market with UK consumer products

What you'll be doing each day:

The company is looking for someone with UK or Chinese accountancy qualifications who is up for a great challenge to take on Financial Controller duties with a view to becoming Group CFO. Attitude and ability are of more importance for this role than experience. The client is looking for an open-minded person who can grow with the role and is suited to a non-corporate environment.

Your Main Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development of the company’s finance function. This is a job for someone who leads others as well as being technically highly proficient. He/she will be responsible for developing the finance team from scratch and making key decisions as to how the team and function should meet the needs of the business.

  • A key member of the senior management team the Financial controller will have wide input into shaping the commercial success of the business and can operate at a senior level as well as ensuring the day to day finance function is operating correctly.

  • Producing statutory and monthly financial reports, maintaining an adequate system of accounting records, maintaining a comprehensive set of controls and budgets to mitigate risks and enhancing the accuracy of the financial reporting process to ensure that the financial information complies with IFRS or FRS 101.

  1. Creating tools to model the business for forward looking forecasts and being responsible for the monitoring of current performance against forecast.
  2. Ensuring the financial management system accurately reflects a true and fair financial position;
  3. Ensuring all ledgers are controlled and maintained to the highest standard, including but not limited to reviewing payroll records and all payments;
  4. Reviewing inter-company invoices and reconciliations, as well as maintaining and improving current systems and controls;
  5. Reviewing monthly management accounts in line with Group accounting policies for presentation to the Executives and shareholders;
  6. Producing IFRS or FRS 101 compliant financial statements (including the annual statutory accounts) in line with the timetables set out by Corporate and the Shareholders’ Agreement;
  7. Preparing ad hoc financial performance reports;
  8. Liaising with the company tax advisers to prepare tax files and dealing with quarterly and annual tax returns and another tax related matters;
  9. Establishing and maintaining the company’s internal control system to ensure the internal control environment covers the entire UK operations in accounting, finance and management fields.
  10. Producing cash flow forecasts according to business requirements; and
  11. Managing the relationship and services provided by external accountancy firm.

Your Knowledge & Key Skills:

  • Very bright and always a fast learner (this is the most important thing to us – more important than any work experience)
  • An interest in understanding how the business works and enthusiasm for making the most of opportunities.
  • Keen to work in a real business and ready to take on new responsibilities
  • Ability to solve problems, make decisions, deal with new things and execute without constant recourse to seniors for support.
  • Up-to-date knowledge of best practices in accounting and financial management
  • Friendly, upbeat, willingness to undertake new work, respectful and considerate to both their subordinates and seniors
  • Good spoken and written business English
  • Mandarin speaking to native level
  • Understanding of Chinese business culture and Chinese consumer culture
  • Willingness to travel to mainland China on business.
