What you'll be doing each day:

This well-established, independent medical supplies distributor is looking for an experienced and motivated Procurement Specialist to join its friendly team at its offices near Watford. Reporting directly to the Procurement Manager, the role is key within the organisation involving the purchase of mainly pharmaceuticals and other healthcare products. You will manage existing supplier relationships, identify new suppliers, strategically import products and improve or maintain margins on those products through more effective purchasing.

Responsibilities

-  Working with the sales team to strategically source medicinal products to client specifications from UK and overseas markets, including public and private sector tenders

-  To negotiate agreements with suppliers to ensure that value for money and excellent service levels are maintained and optimised across all categories of expenditure

-  Ensuring that product cost targets are achieved and inventory levels are managed to support customer requirements, whilst preventing the accumulation of excess stock

-  Participation in selection and qualification of new vendors into the supply chain

-  To raise purchase orders and expedite deliveries to ensure that lead-times are met and continuity of supply is maintained

-  To maintain compliance with all policies and standard operation procedures (SOPS) across the company

-  Working with the Finance department to improve supplier credit terms

-  To identify and suggest appropriate new products in line with corporate focus and strategy

-  Ability to travel globally to visit suppliers, as required, and to pharmaceutical exhibitions to meet new and potential suppliers

The skills you'll need to succeed:

-  Minimum of three years' international sourcing/procurement experience; preferred within the pharmaceutical/healthcare industry

-  Excellent organisational skills and efficiency with ability to multi-task effectively in a high-pressure environment

-  Effective negotiation skills

-  Excellent analytical skills

-  Team player - ability to work well with sales team and other internal stakeholders

-  Relationship/account management skills for suppliers of varying levels of spend

-  Excellent interpersonal and written and verbal communication skills

-  Highly IT literate (Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook) including deep experience of procurement/order and inventory management software.

-  Very good attention to detail
